Cranes to a higher level
Hans Künz GmbH, producer of rail mounted gantry cranes (RMGs) and other types of cranes, had the ambition to create a new generation of stacking cranes (another word for RMG), using the latest technological developments and innovations. Aimed at increasing reliability, reducing maintenance, production costs and cost of ownership and ‘going green’ wherever possible.
The bearings in the bogies and in other locations on the previous generation of cranes required a lot of maintenance and regularly caused problems.
New bearings were developed for the bogies, the bogies-crane connection, suspension of the head block and other joints using D-glide, with a reliability and maintenance regime that fully align with the demands and desires of Künz. The durability of the bearings is such that no replacement is foreseen for the full life time of the cranes.
On Maasvlakte 2, the first new cranes were installed in 2013 and 2014 and have been operational since 2015. The bearings have met all expectations and the cranes perform so efficiently and reliably that an additional series have been ordered.
